Artsylum Quartet currently comprises of Ng Wei Ping, Chia Jit Min, Christoven Tan and Elizabeth Tan, and crossing over best describes what they do. While they started out playing classical quartet works, they have also performed Chinese classics, Disney and Japanese animation music, Broadway tunes, jazz and opera favorites, as well as numerous original compositions by budding and established local composers. Artsylum Quartet has also collaborated with local rock musicians Jack and Rai and 53A, US-based theremin player Ong Shueh-li, and was Artiste-in-Residence with Odyssey Dance Theatre for 2010/11.
Past
outreach efforts of the quartet include holding a concert introducing string
quartet music at the Singapore Boys’ Home in 2009, and conducting a 10-week
course in violin and cello performance for the residents there, which
culminated in a concert at the end of the 10 weeks.
